I provide psychotherapy (including telehealth) services using evidence-based techniques. I draw from Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Somatic Psychology, and Mindful Self-Compassion. I work with men and women, young adults, and couples.
My areas of expertise include:
SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY
Somatics is a field within bodywork and movement studies which emphasizes internal physical perception and experience. The term was coined by philosopher and body worker Thomas Hanna and derives from the ancient Greek word “SOMA”, which means, of or pertaining to the body, as experienced and regulated from within.” The term is used in movement therapy to signify approaches based on movement, touch, breath, and the internal experience of the body, including everything from Body-Mind Centering to Feldenkrais Method to Rolfing. |
COUPLES THERAPY
My couples program starts with a 10-session commitment to our work that takes place over the course of 3 months. Within those 10 weeks, we get to know each other, determine personalized goals and a focus for the work that helps you interrupt old patterns, and work towards building new patterns and foundations for greater intimacy, communication, and connection. At the end of 10 weeks, we evaluate progress and decide whether to bring the work to completion or embark on another 10 week journey together to deepen existing intentions or work towards next steps. |
PREMARITAL COUNSELING
I work with couples looking to take their relationship to the next level, improve their understanding of each other, and improve their communication using Prepare-Enrich pre-marital assessment and tools. With a solid research foundation, Prepare-Enrich assessment can help couples that are preparing for marriage or simply looking for coaching and tools to help them as they move their relationship to the next level. Where appropriate, I incorporate interventions from my training in Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Gottman Method, mindfulness, somatic psychotherapy and Acceptance and Commitment therapy. |
THERAPY FOR MEN
As a man, you may receive mixed messages about what's expected of you as a person and as a man. This can be incredibly confusing and can become a roadblock to ease, clarity, and fulfillment in your life. Pressures on men can also lead to a tendency to withdraw and feel you have to "figure things out" on your own, which can create a deep sense of isolation. It may feel so normal, you don't even notice it. |
ADDICTION
Are you, a loved one, or a family member struggling with your relationship to substances? I work with individuals in the maintenance stage of recovery and help you refine your coping mechanisms, uncover longstanding patterns, and deepen your relationships. Data shows that drug use and chemical dependency are on the rise in the U.S. In my work, I draw from evidence based models such as ACT, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing and support both harm reduction and abstinence-based models. I find group work and family systems (or couples) work to be an integral aspect of chemical dependency treatment and will make referrals a part of your treatment plan accordingly. |
BODY IMAGE AND DISORDERED EATING
Are you or a loved one struggling with your relationship to food? I work with individuals in later stages of recovery to help redefine their relationship to food and their bodies. Eating disorders range from Anorexia and Bulimia to Binge Eating and Orthorexia, and are far more common than is widely recognized. Eating disorders are a daily struggle for 10 million females and 1 million males in the United States. Four out of ten individuals have either personally experienced an eating disorder or know someone who has. |
ONLINE COUNSELING (TELEHEALTH)
Online therapy, also known as e-therapy, e-counseling, or telehealth, is a new development in mental health in which a therapist or coach provides advice and support over the internet in the form of email, video conferencing, online chat, messaging, or internet phone. Online therapy is it's own unique service that allows you to balance your work and life responsibilities in a new way. While online counseling is not identical to psychotherapy, it is a wonderful alternative to traditional therapy for those seeking advice and counsel. Telehealth offers an online option for receiving guidance and advice to those experiencing problems in relationships, work, or life. |
Lauren Korshak, MFT, is a relationship therapist, meditation teacher and dating coach. But you might also call her a mindful matchmaker, love sherpa, dating shaman, broken heart mender, or relationship whisperer. Let her uncover roadblocks to the love life of your dreams.
